Tasty Treats

Tasty Treats and Recipes

Are you famous for your flapjacks? Is your lasagne legendary? Or perhaps you fancy inventing something special just for us?

We are in need of your culinary inspiration to help create a ‘Club Recipe Book’, full of your favourite recipes; the tastier, the better! All profits from the book will be going to our adopted charity – Cancer Research UK.

So have a think and choose your favourite recipe that you would like to share, either by yourself or as a group with some of your friends. It can have a netball theme (Shooter’s Spaghetti!) or just be something that you love to make.

Once you have chosen the recipe you would like to share, you will need to type this up, preferably in a Word document format, and please try to keep to just one side of A4 per entry. Please ensure that you leave at least a 25mm margin on the left hand side for the book to be bound. Start the page of by writing a sentence or two about why you chose the recipe, or just how yummy it is!! Jazz your page up with fancy fonts, pictures or illustrations; however please remember the recipes will be printed in black and white, so don’t use any colour. Finish your entry by addingyour name, age and the club section or team which you belong to, on the bottom right hand corner (YES ADULTS, WE WANT YOUR AGE!!).

Once we have had all the recipes in, we will get them bound together ready for you to buy for your family and friends for Christmas...or buy it before and prepare some of the treats as gifts!!

We are also running a competition for you to design the cover of the book. You can choose the title of the book, but somewhere on the page you need to mention “Tibberton Netball Club” and “Cancer Research UK”. You may use colour in this, but please remember to leave a 25mm margin down the left for binding. If you would like to enter then just enclose your entry with your recipe. The winner will be presented with a bag of club goodies!

All recipes need to be received by Wednesday 9th November, via email or if you do not have access to email, via post. Unfortunately any recipes received after this time won’t make it into the cook book in time!

Cake Stall

Wednesday 28th September saw the committee organise a kit shop at Burton Borough along with a cake stall in aid of our clubs chosen charity, Cancer Research.

The night was a great success with cakes being donated from players, parents and club staff. The funds raised from the cake stall have finally been counted and the total money raised for Cancer Research is £195.22.

Well done to all the club 'bakers'..... hope you all enjoyed eating them!

Olympic Torch

On Monday 7th November the London 2012 Olympic Committee announced the route the Olympic Torch will take, revealing the 1,000 cities, towns and villages on the route of the Olympic Torch Relay.

Between 18 May and 27 July 2012, the Olympic Flame will come to within just 10 miles of 95% of the population of the UK. .

The Torch will travel through the West Midlands and will pass through Newport and Telford, on Wednesday 30th May 2012.

How exciting.... hope we all get to see it, and cheer it on its way.

Tasty Treats Recipe Book

As you are aware we have asked all club members, officials and volunteers to send in your favourite recipes. Our intention is to make up a recipe book to sell off in aid of our chosen charity 'Cancer Research'.

Once you have chosen the recipe you would like to share, you will need to type this up, preferably in a Word document format, and please try to keep to just one side of A4 per entry. C Award Umpire Course

Netball Umpire C Award

A 'C Award' umpire course is being run at the TCAT Sports Centre, Haybridge Road, Wellington, Telford, Shropshire, TF1 2NP.

The course will be on Sunday 15thJanuary 2012, from 10.30am to 5.00pm. The cost of the course is £25.00 to affiliated members £35.00 to non affiliated.

Please note places are limited and will be allocated on a first come first served basis. Closing date for applications is 9th January 2012, or when the maximum entries have been received

London Marathon - Esther Whitten

Hi all,

On the 22nd April 2012 i will be pulling on my trainers and running the London marathon.

After an application process I was privileged to be allocated a place running for Breast Cancer Campaign. Breast Cancer Campaign’s mission is to beat breast cancer by funding innovative world-class research to understand how breast cancer develops, leading to improved diagnosis, treatment, prevention and cure ..

'Everyone can be part of the cure.'

I applied to this charity as in April this year a friend of mine, senior club manager Siobhan Pritchard, lost her battle with breast cancer at a tender age of 34. I can’t bottle her ability and strength to look cancer in the face, and fight with continued dignity, but if i can take on board her strength to give me the motivation to run 26.2miles to raise money to support the unseen professionals and doctors to move things forwards, then this is my way.

The marathon will be 2 days prior to the 1st anniversary of Siobhan’s untimely death.

I would be very grateful if you could support me in helping to raise my target of £2500.

Twisters blow the opposition away

We are delighted to report that our U16 Elite team 'Twisters' have won the division one of the Shropshire Junior Netball League, making them the County Champions.

This means the squad will be sent forward to the West Midlands Regional League, which is held in Walsall starting in January 2012.

Each year all the counties in the West Midlands send forward their top two teams, so Twisters will be up against some strong opposition. We will keep you posted as to how they are getting on.

Congratulations to all squad players and Karen Bennett the Lead Coach. The whole club is very proud of you all.

Star beat top of table

With Star struggling to field a consistent team of late, we always knew playing top of the table Linden was going to be a tough match. However, there was a real sense of positivity within the squad prior to the match. Shooter Emma Stott had returned from injury and having her on court was a real confidence boost.

The 1s tquarter started off well, in fact that’s an understatement, it started off fantastically. Star found their form quickly and took a substantial lead which was consolidated in the 2nd quarter. Units throughout the court worked well together and linked up to allow the ball to move through the court at relative ease. Acott Smith, Home and Worrell worked tirelessly in defense to turn over ball and thwart many of Lindens attacking play. Acott-Smith made several tips on many of Linden’s shots showing great athleticism from the new signing this season. In centre court Haycox, Bell and Cordingley linked up well with timely clearing and driving moves on and off the ball and around the circle edge. Shooters Massie and Stott were outstanding creating great space in the circle, out playing a strong Linden defence. Haycox, Bell and Cordingley fed the circle strongly into the space that was created for them.

With Linden currently standing top of the Regional League, we knew we could not take our foot off the gas. Coach Lina Morgan made a subistution at half time bringing on Gemma Cordingley for Lucy Bell which gave Star a pair of fresh legs and Linden more to think about. Whilst Star lost the 3rd quarter by a couple of goals we extended our lead again in the 4th to finally win 61-37.

Player of the match Nicci Haycox stated excitedly, “It was a fantastic match to play in. The team worked tirelessly for one another and we thoroughly deserved the win.” During the trip home captain Lucy Bell came out with a definite quote of the day, “we were in the zone and no-one was going to stop us.” The final word has to go to coach Lina Morgan, who stated, “Great team performance today, I was, and are VERY proud of you.” Star remain comfortably mid table and now hope to keep this form for the remainder of the season and ruffle some more feathers at the top of the table!

Child protection Course

Seven Tibberton Netball Club officials attended a Child Protection and Safe Guarding Course on Monday 16th January at Wellington Police Station.

The course was run by our very own Vicky Ridgewell (Jade squad member) who was strangely out of netball kit for the night and in her Police attire. We all behaved well knowing that the cells were not very far away!

An informative course that opened up minds to all to the issues of Child Protection. We wish to thank Vicky for her time and effort making the course possible.

Esther Whitten - London marathon

As many of you are already aware Esther Whitten, one of our Club Umpires, is going to run the London Marathon on 22nd April 2012, in support of Breast Cancer UK and in memory of Siobhan Pritchard. She is asking all club members to dig deep and sponsor her,

Esther has been sent a press release from the charity, celebrating a recent move forward for breast cancer research and she would like to share it with all Club members. As Esther said 'Its good to show my supporters what the charity does'.

Breast Cancer press release....Hi Everyone, I wanted to write to celebrate with you a wonderful and exciting day for Breast Cancer Campaign, and medical research as a whole - and that your support has helped make possible.

Today we launch the first national breast cancer tissue bank – a resource developed over the past five years by Breast Cancer Campaign, with the NHS, research institutions – and the brilliant scientists who work within them, and with patients who are the heart of everything we do here. Today the Breast Cancer Campaign Tissue Bank opens its vaults of precious breast cancer tissue donated by patients, and collected by hospitals across the UK, to all researchers working to find a cure for breast cancer. This news is being released to the press later on today but as a valued supporter we wanted to make sure that you were amongst the first to know.

Scientists have been crying out for this resource for many years – a lack of tissue is the biggest barrier to making further progress in research to improve the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer. The Breast Cancer Campaign Tissue Bank will provide the materials researchers need to make such progress.

This is the day we take a big step towards curing breast cancer and I hope that knowing how your fundraising is making a difference will make it a bit easier when you’re out there pounding the streets.

U16/Adult Training Sessions

It is with regret that we have to inform you that the Adult Manager, Julie Orton and I have made the decision to cancel all training sessions for the above combined age groups.

We have struggled from the beginning of this season to reach the numbers where the session is viable. Most of the players on the register are from the U16 squad. So we have approached the Junior Manager Nicolette Byrne and she has agreed to take the U16 players into her Junior session for the remainder of the season.

Therefore can all U16’s please now go to BurtonBoroughSchoolon Wednesday 1st February 2012, from 7.30pm to 9pm.Training fees will be £3.00 per session.

Nic Cooper will still be the coach for the U16 team Twisters at Shropshire Junior Netball League (CVL). Should you not be available to play please contact her direct on 07811 384522.

Most of the senior players are a member of one of the club teams that are competing at present so we will not loose touch with you.

For the members that are not competing there is another option that we will happily discuss with you. If you are interested in competing please see Julie Orton in person, or email her direct.

On the 9th March Paul Pritchard is holding a 'Race Night' at Wrockwardine Wood Football Club on behalf of Breast Cancer Campaign.

The night is being organised in memory of Siobhan Pritchard, and Paul is asking all of Siobhan's netball friends to come along and join in.

Tickets are £5 Adults and £3 Children, and will include a fish & chip supper. Tickets available from your team Captain.

Rachel Taylor, our CAPS Coordinator, handed Tibberton Netball Club CAPS folder over to 'Netball West Midlands' for preliminary assessment this morning.

I have nothing but praise for Rachel's hard word and dedication that was involved in preparing the folder for submission.

I would also like to express my sincere thanks to Siobhan and Nicolette Byrne for their input into the documents that were required by England Netball.

Fingers crossed that we achieve an award relevant to the clubs reputation.

Tibberton Junior Summer League

Applications are invited from teams wishing to join the Tibberton Netball Club Junior Summer League, which will be held at Idsall Sports Centre, Shifnal on Wednesday evenings.

This year we have decided to create 2 divisions in the under 14 section. Division 1 is targeted at teams currently in division 1 of the CVL; but unfortunately we will not accept teams that play in the West Midlands Regional League. Please indicate which division is required on the entry form.

There is limited space in all divisions so early application is encouraged.

Closing date for all applications is the 28th March 2012.

On the Move workshop

On Sunday 19th February seven of our Club Coaches attended a England Netball coaching course, 'On the Move'.

The Technical Coaching workshops have been developed by England Netball aimed at providing club coaches who are regularly planning sessions with a better understanding of a specific area of player and game development, the toolkit required to analyse and correct technique and fresh ideas for building practices and sessions.

The course introduced our coaches to the essential movement skills required for effective performance in netball. Specific tasks were set up to enable our coaches to identify the coaching points, common errors and corrective measures associated with each of the movement skills.

The workshop examined practice design and outlined how to progress a movement skill practice with specific emphasis on making progressions game related throughout.

All of our Coaches enjoyed the day, and managed to take a lot of ideas away with them. Many thanks to you all for giving up your time on a Sunday.

With Parkside going from the top of the table to mid table overnight due to receiving a 20 point deduction as a result of a rule infringement there was everything to play for. With a tough loss last week Star were determined to play with pride and retain our position of third in the table.

Tibberton Star started strongly from the first whistle and shocked Parkside with an early lead. Star played with great heart and determination. In centre court, Worrall, Haycox and Bell linked well utilising space to bring the ball through the court. Due to the pressure of Parkside’s defence Star had to really take care of the ball. Haycox and Bell’s decision making was crucial in selecting the right ball into the circle. Due to the pressure from Parkside, Bell and Haycox had to work the ball to the circle edge with patience to ensure it was safely delivered to shooters Massie and Stott. Worrall provided a constant back up, to play the ball back to and re-position if required. Massie and Stott were on form as usual, sinking a high percentage of shots from a variety of shooting positions. This was particularly impressive given the physical nature of Parkside’s defence. Both players received several war wounds to remember the encounter, however kept their concentration throughout.

Defensively, the unit work of Worrall, Home and Acott-Smith was outstanding. In the circle Acott-Smith and Home made several tips and interceptions and dominated the circle making it incredibly difficult for Parkside to feed the circle. Miranda Worrall, used her stature well to pressurise the pass from outside of the circle allowing Home and Acott-Smith a better chance of interception. Worrall, also excelled taking a number of clean interceptions around the circle edge.

As the game progressed, Parkside attempted to comeback. However, their defiant attitude disrupted their focus and Star kept their composure to win the match by 6 goals. Captain Bell described the victory as, “a fantastic display of skill and composure.”

A special thanks goes to elite junior coach Vicky Woodman who was acting as Star’s coach due to Lina Morgan having to attend the National School’s Final. Her support and encouragement was much appreciated. Other thanks go to Star’s supporters, whose nerves must have been shattered again due to the closeness of the match, but who never stopped shouting positive comments from the side line. With one match left, let’s hope Star can finish off the season in style!

Elite Under 16, Under 19 and Senior Training.

28th March 2012 will see the start of the Secal Laser Summer League. As so many of the players and officials at Wrekin are involved and all of the winter competition will have been completed we have decided to shut down for the summer season a week earlier than our other sessions.

Your Managers and Coaches will give you further details this week of your summer playing schedule.

Please ensure that your contact details are up to date on the members area of the website, to allow us to contact you over the summer with details of trials and registration for the 2012/2013 season.

Hi all,

Well with 3 days to go before I put on my trainers and take part in the biggest marathon in England, I thought I would take this opportunity to thanks those who have helped me raise funds for Breast Cancer Campaign either through direct sponsorship, or by attending the race night, or buying raffle tickets. And for those that still intend to its not too late u can sponsor me for up to 6 weeks after Sunday

At present I have raised £6,195.20- my target is £7000 so I’m 89% there.

On Sunday my running number is 35,494 and I will be running in a pink breast cancer campaign vest see pictures attached

As you all know I’m doing the marathon in memory of Siobhan Pritchard, our Senior Manager and a committed player, who died on 24th April 2011.

That day in October when I received that phone call, changed my life in the short term, firstly although I had ran in the past my running mojo and turned very nicely into a SOFA, WHITE WINE AND CHOCOLATE MOJO, so I went to the back of the cupboard and dusted off my trainers. My first run out I managed a very unimpressive 20 minutes before I had to stop. Panic it was I thought I have 6 weeks till jan 1st when the marathon training plan official starts- my aim to be able to run for 1hr without stopping by Christmas. Christmas day I did that

Since Jan 1st I have ran 485 miles , equating to approx 81hours or 3days 9hrs. I’ve also had 2 weeks off because of an calf injury and a week off cause of flu

Sunday is because of, and in memory of Siobhan, when im hurting or just having a bad moment my thoughts will be of Siobhan and her positive attitude throughout her treatment and illness.

Catherine's Marathon Challenge

Much missed ex-member Catherine McPhillips is taking on the London Marathon this Sunday in aid of Macmillian Cancer Support. Catherine left the club when she went to study at Leeds University, but her and her whole family were an important part of our club for a number of years.

Catherine said " I will be trying very hard to ignore the pain as I get myself round it! We've been training really hard for 6 months so hopefully it will pay off! I am overwhelmed with the amount of money we have raised already everyone has been really great supporting us and its such a good cause, it really means a lot to me."

West Midlands Screening Day

While our U16 Elite Team 'Twisters' have been competing in the West Midlands Regional League, player observations have been taking place by the Regional Head Scout and other County Head Scouts.

The Club Manager, June Byrne, this week received an email from Lesley Blair, West Midlands Regional Excel Coach, inviting four of our Twisters squad to ‘Pre Screening’ which is taking place on the 16th June 2012 at Walsall Sports Centre.

The four players are Natasha Coleman, Natasha Aston, Emily Wright and Becky Pugh.

U16 Lead Coach Karen Bennett said ‘I am exceptionally pleased that four of my girls have been invited to regional screening. It shows that Shropshire girls can be recognised for their talent amongst the more densely populated counties. Tibberton Netball Club is certainly producing excellent players, able to compete at the highest levels’.

Sharon Green U16 Elite manager added ‘I would just like to say a huge congratulations to all four girls and also to their coach Karen. It just goes to show that by being committed to training sessions and listening to the advice from their coach has paid off. I am sure that their achievement will be an inspiration to all our club players. Well done and good luck’.

If the girls perform well on the day they could potentially be invited to attend training sessions during June, July and September before a final screening in October.

On behalf of the Club, congratulations and good luck to you all. We are very very proud of you.

I did it. I ran a marathon.

Just want to say a big thank you to everyone for your support over the last 6 months. I completed the London marathon yesterday and wow what a day.

The sun shined and shined –booo, and I was dressed for overcast and rain.

The atmosphere was amazing and the day will definitely be up there in my life experiences. Had a few wobbles along the way- just after 16miles and poor man trip over and used me as his safety blanket hence we both landed on the floor also had stitch (ouch) at 17 and 23 miles causing me to have to stop, and at 23 miles walk for a while. But I finished

My official time is 4hr 14min and 08 sec.

Id like to thank all that donated to my charity – Breast Cancer Campaign, - I’m 92% there raised just under £6500 so far. For those who may have wanted to wait to see if I crossed that line it’s not too late to make a contribution at www.justgiving.com/esther-whitten or

These trials are OPEN to ALL players, you do not have to be a current member of Tibberton Netball Club to trial.

This presentation evening is for ALL age groups and teams, and we would love to see all of your families and friends there too! Make sure you come along; you wouldn’t want to miss out on the Hog Roast or Wildes Sweet Shop! There will be sweets for all generations!
