Coaching Team 2008/2009
CAROLINE RITCHIE MORGAN
Level 3
Caroline holds her Level 3 Coaching Award
and has continually challenged herself throughout her coaching career.
Tibberton Netball Club are honoured to have her as the lead coach for the
Senior Elite Squad, from which Star compete in the Regional League.
Caroline’s Coaching achievements include Assistant
Coach for Wales at the Melbourne Commonwealth Games, Coach for Celtic Dragons
Superleague Team, Head Coach for West Mids Warriors and Head of Netball at Wrekin College.
During her playing career Caroline played
for U14, U16, U18, U21 and Senior County levels and for the West Midlands
squad. During her time at County she was the Captain for the Senior Squad for
just over 10 years.
KAREN BENNETT
Level 2
Karen holds an AENA Level 2 Netball Coach
award, and holds the position of Lead Coach for the Elite U14 and Elite U16
squads, as well as Assistant Coach for the Senior Elite Squad. Over the years
she has coached Senior Elite Squads for Shropshire County and for Star Netball
Club for over 10 years, before joining Tibberton Netball Club in 2005. Karen is
also a member of a very successful Coaching Team at Wrekin College who boast U12, U13, U14 and U19 County Champions for 2009. Her Coaching experience has
also seen her coach some School Tour teams in St Lucia and in La Manga Spain. Karen has played Netball since being 7 years old and has enjoyed playing for Shropshire County, Star and for the National Civil Service Team for many years. She
believes that this experience will help her to mentor other coaches and players
to achieve real success and enjoyment from the game she loves.
NICOLA COOPER
Level 2
Nicola’s Netball
career began in Australia at the age of 7 when she was selected for the school
team. After relocating back to England she continued to play and was selected
to represent the County at U14, U16, U18, U21 and Senior levels.
She currently
plays for Tibberton in the Lilleshall League and occasionally called upon by
Star in the Regional league.
Nicola joined our
Club in 1992, and through the years has gained her Coaching qualifications and
currently holds the England Netball Level 2 Award.
Nicola holds the
position of Assistant Coach for the Elite U14 and U16 squads, which saw her
taking the U14 team to the Regional League last season. In 2008 she was asked
to coach the Telford Squad for the Shropshire Youth games, which she found very
rewarding.
She also holds the
position of Chairperson for Tibberton Netball Club.
PHIL HOGGINS
Level 1
Phil was coxed
into becoming a coach by June Byrne, has his daughter is a member of our Club
and he used to attend every training session as a spectator. He has
successfully gained his Level 1 Coach Award, and is currently being mentored by
Karen Bennett and Nicola Cooper at the Elite U14 and U16 sessions. This saw him
assisting Nicola at the Regional League with the U14 squad Tornados.
Last season Phil
was asked to Coach at the County Satellite Academy, which also lead to him
being asked to take on the role of selector for this season.
When asked about
his netball playing experience, Phil’s response was ‘Have you seen me in a
skirt’……
NICKI WOODCOCK
Level 2
Nicki got into
netball at the age of 7 at school, and has been completed hooked every since.
Her playing experience has seen her represent the County at U14, U16, U18 and
Senior levels. She currently plays for Tibberton in the Lilleshall League, and
this year they took the title of Division 1 League Champions.
Nicki’s coaching
career began at school when she started out coaching the younger teams. Once
back from University she coached an ‘adult returners’ team. When she joined our
Club she was appointed the position of assistant coach to the U14’s squad, but
has since progressed to the Lead Coach of the U14 section, and assistant coach
at the U11’s. She holds the Level 2 Coaching Award and is also a qualified
Umpire. Within the Club she holds the position of Coaching Education Officer,
and she also sits on the Shropshire Netball Leagues Council in the position of
Chairperson and Treasurer.
KARYN SHIMMONS
Level 1
Karyn is involved
in Netball in many ways. Her playing career began at school, where she was
asked to join a teachers team ‘Wrekin ladies’. She also represented the County
at U14, U16, U18, U21 and Senior levels, and was successfully chosen to play
for the West Midlands squad. During her time in the County Squads she Captained the U21 and Senior sides. She was a member of Star, but due to injury
Karyn has had to retire from playing.
She began coaching
the Under 11’s section with June Byrne in 2006 as the assistant coach, but has
now progressed onto Lead Coach of the U11’s, and Assistant Coach to the U14’s.
She currently holds her Level 1 Coach Award, but is aiming to achieve her Level
2 this season.
During the summer
months Karyn runs the ‘Secal Laser Summer Netball League’ with her husband
Darren and daughter Danielle. This involves an amazing amount of organization,
but Karyn seems to flourish under this pressure.
NICOLETTE BYRNE
Level 2
Nicolette began
coaching the junior section of the Club 18 years ago. At the time the U11’s and
U14’s all trained together, which was a challenge!
Over the years
Nicolette has gained her coaching experience from coaching many different age
groups and levels, this included U11’s, U14’s, Elite U14 & U16’s, Adults,
Shropshire Youth Games, Satellite Academy and under the old County Structure
the U13 development squad.
She holds her
Level 2 Coaching Award, and the position of Junior Manager for the Club.
Through the years
Nicolette has coached players that joined the Club at the age of 7 and has seen
them progress into the Senior Elite squad, which gives her the motivation to
continue.
She also holds the
position of Fixture Secretary for the Shropshire Junior Netball League (CVL).
KATE GIBSON
Level 1
Kate played
netball at school, but has recently got back into the sport due to her
University degree. She asked the Club if she could come along to produce a
video, but ended up staying as she enjoyed it so much.
The Club encouraged
her to gain her Level 1 Coaching award last season, and she came along and
helped out at the U11’s and U14 sessions. During the summer she coached an U11
team in the league, and next season see’s her take on the position of assistant
coach at the Tadpoles U11’s sessions and Adult sessions.
VIKKI WOODMAN
Level 2
Vikki has been a member of Tibberton Netball Club since 1998,
Playing for Dynamos then moving through the teams of the club. During her
playing career she was also chosen represented Shropshire County in the
development squad. Currently Vikki plays for TNT in the Lilleshall League.
She has gained several netball qualifications through the club,
the latest being her Level 2 coaching.
Vikki has held many additional positions within the County set
up including County Fixture Secretary, and Satellite Academy Coach, and
currently teaches netball at a local junior school passing her passion for
netball on.
Through the Club she has taught many different age groups, but
this season she has been asked to coach the Elite U19’s section.
LAURA EALES
Level 2
Laura has been interested in coaching since
school and was given the opportunity to develop these skills through a
Shropshire Netball Scholarship. She used the scholarship to qualify as a Level
2 Netball Coach and became instrumental in the formation of Bridgnorth Junior
Netball Club.
Laura also played for the Club before
leaving to further her education at University
Her experience in coaching ranges from High Five to University level where money
restrictions often meant captains coaching their own teams.
Laura was lucky enough to have weekly training sessions at the age of 18
through County Netball and believes this helped her to have success at
University level.
She is now looking forward to helping
provide this opportunity for the current Elite U19's of Tibberton Netball Club,
and we are delighted to welcome her on board.
RACHEL MASSIE
Level 1
Rachel began
playing Netball at junior school, and then joined a Club in Stafford. She
joined TNC in 2002, after being coached by Nicolette Byrne in the Shropshire
Youth Games. Rachel represented the County at U13, U14 and U16 levels until
they disbanded. She also played in the West Midlands Development squad for 2
years. She currently plays for Star, which see’s her traveling back from Loughbrough University on match days.
At Newport Girls High School she coached the school teams, as well as helping out at the U11
sessions with the Club, and she now holds the Level 1 Coaching Award.
Rachel has held many
positions including Young Leader, Administrator at the CVL and Shropshire Youth
Games and Volunteer at TNC. Whenever she is back from University she comes
along to the training sessions and gives up her time and expertise to our young
players.
Her greatest
achievement came in 2008 when she was awarded Young Volunteer of the Year for
the West Midlands region.
